I tried to write a new blog post in chrome on my Mac. It would not accept the photo I wanted to use, did not show my category list, but claimed the post was published. I figured I'd go into the Edge browser on my PC and add the graphic and categories. When I got to the PC, it asked me to upgrade my WordPress to 5.5 (I didn't get this message on the Mac). I did this and also updated my plugins and themes. The post did not show up at all, and I ended up recreating it by copying it from the Mac into a text file and emailing the file to myself so I could do the post again on the PC. I was able to do the graphic and my categories list showed up normally. This is the new post: https://greenandprofitable.com/building-a-ladder-for-new-nonviolent-activists/ The two of my older posts I checked also lost their skin. They are all supposed to have a green background that goes with my site. It's not a big deal, but I'd like it to go back to normal. I went back to the wp-admin window on the Mac to see what would happen if I brought up an older post. Only two posts show up when I click "all posts": the one I just reposted from the PC, and a post about Ireland from 2014. This blog has been active since 2004 and has hundreds of posts. On the PC, all the posts are there--but I've lost the ability to reply to or edit comments. And I notice in the Dashboard page that it wants yet another PHP update (seems like I did one not very long ago). What do I need to do? Advice very much appreciated, as always. It?s because all the cheap ones don?t actually test the power in the battery. What do they test? Not sure, but not percentage of power remaining, except within a useless range close to the line between red and green. It was perhaps too joyous a moment for me when I used a real battery tester, and within a few minutes could throw out, save, or recharge all my batteries. Next I?ll test all batteries in my smoke detectors to avoid the schedule-shattering low-battery warning that usually happens around 3am. So that such knowledge so consequential in ending accumulated annoyances does not taper off with my existence, I thought I?d pass on the good news here. Not exactly the second coming, but at least a few steps out of a mini-purgatory. Here?s what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DRJZRJ4 . Since it sounds like some post are not showing, it is more a problem then annoying, you can deal with annoying by turning off warnings - usually in php.ini. You said you updated WP and plugins, and themes -- themes seems suspects - esp since the issue is with post-custom-meta It sounds like the theme is using a custom-meta value that is not handled right even with the upgrade. I'd look closer at the theme, esp since it old and that the update is handling the meta right. Esp since the mac vs PC difference - it really looks a version issue and possible with older code vs html5 Can't really do more with a direct look at the server -- next step is to have it gone over by whoever setup the combination originally Rich On 8/15/2020 11:31 AM, Shel Horowitz via Hidden-discuss wrote: > I don't know what's going on. Depending on the discharge curve, which depends on the battery's chemistry, this may or may not give you much of an idea of the *percentage* of "charge" left. Eg batteries with a linear dischage curve will give you a better level of charge from the voltage. Some batteries maintain a good voltage, up until just before they go dead -- eg the curve is like a cliff and actually this is prefered from the point of view of what you are powering, but makes things harder to tell the difference between 80% charged and 20% charged. Generally, it is not really possible to get much more info about the battery from a tester. I'm late on disseminating a far deeper and more systemic solution to the failures of our economic system, which I'll run by this group (a model using blockchain + web + non-violent activism), so won't say much more on this topic, except: * Yes, NextDoor.com is well positioned for such a feature. * Yes, getting enough people to use it is the chicken-egg problem with this idea. There are solutions, all of which would test the profit (shared or capitalist) model. * Dealing with damage and theft is one of several liability issues, along with insurance surrounding injury from using a borrowed item. * Christine's list of three such solutions out there already suggests the concept has legs, but also that the opportunity may already be getting crowded out. A business model that depends on competition being stupid, however often that stupidity may be true, is a weaker model than one showing value to be created without existing competition. * On the other hand, a little competition helps distribute the cost of raising consumers' awareness that the category of solution exists. If I were to explore the idea, I'd start with the realistic costs of build and operation, then work back from that to the revenue models that could support it. It might not be viable--cars and houses have a lot more dormant capital when not used. If that analysis showed viability, then one prices marketing vs. selling to the likes of NextDoor.com, and sees if any surplus value after build and operation costs would support marketing or be enough to interest M&A (mergers and acquisitions) people. There was a major change in the version of jQuery being used and along with it some backwards compatibility functionality was removed. Old plugins and themes may have some JS code that breaks the page load and a lot of interactivity along with it. This article reviews the details and some suggested remediations. In my experience, the result was non-functioning JS in the editor which would explain the lack of interactivity you experienced with image uploads, categories/tagging UI, and possibly a page builder (content having the "old look.") The Warnings you're shown are likely the result of minor "sloppy" coding on the part of the theme author - often not crucial as long as it doesn't disrupt the site as it's doing for you. While an upgrade in PHP version you're running can cause more to appear as various improvements result in strict warnings, they all can be hidden by turning off the "display_errors" option within PHP. This is the recommendation for a production site but many hosting providers leave it enabled. The real fun begins when plugin authors turn it on within their code, affecting your whole site. If the authors of the theme are actively supporting/developing/improving it, I would report it to them, too. If your WP_DEBUG constant is already set to false in the wp-config.php file then I would look at your hosting control panel to disable error display. The "Cannot modify headers..." messages will probably also go away when those Warnings are resolved/hidden by disabling the error display. The message often appears when the save process tries to redirect your browser after saving the post/submit a form, but can't because it already sent those warning messages. My recommendations: * Downgrade to WP 4.5.2 if possible (restore a recent backup if you really lost data/posts) * Don't upgrade WordPress again until confirming compatibility with current plugins and/or testing with fixes recommended in the article linked above * Disable error logging in PHP * If you've upgraded the active version of PHP, drop down to 7.3 or lower to see if that helps. This may not be necessary if the previous steps fix your problem. ?- Jeff -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It would not normally be stated as a monthly interest rate, but rather as a pre-paid ("cash") discount. In this case, about %37 off if paid in full up front. 397*4 = 1588 1588-997 = 591 591/1588 = .37216 == 37% > > Thanks so much!???? (One note - the info you have shared isn't enough to calculate an APR. A rate depends on time, so to figure this as a rate, we would have to know the frequency of the payments - are they monthly? quarterly? some other interval?) In his answer, as he mentioned, Robert calculated the difference between the two prices as a 37% discount for paying in advance. From that viewpoint, we look at it as a percentage of the higher price. If we want to think about it as an extra cost for the convenience of spreading out our payments, we would want to calculate it as a percent of the lower figure - $591 / $997 = 59%. So, it's 59% extra if you want to make payments, which is definitely a pretty steep "convenience fee". (Side note, getting back to APR - if, for example, these are monthly payments, and we do want to think of it as an interest rate, it comes out to 177% - 59% * 4 /12) Finally, I'd offer the thought that whether this is a rip-off or not really depends on the value of what they're selling. Is it something worth $1500 and you're getting a big discount for paying up front? Or is it worth $1000 and you're paying a big fee for the convenience of spreading out the cost? For some people, even that big fee might be worth it, if they just had no way to come up with all the money at once. Finally, my apologies if this is too "lessonish" - I've taught math on and off for years and do have a tendency to be a bit long-winded with my explanations. Can anyone recommend the best affiliate plug-in that tracks commissions, allows discount codes, and generates reports. It doesn't need huge numbers of bells and whistles. Ideally, 0-$50 one-time purchase, though I could go higher if something is just awesome. I'd rather not go with the subscription/SaaS model. 2. My web assistant added a new ebook to the cart and ran into an issue: "I have noticed a weird issue when creating a downloadable product on shelhorowitz.com. Important options are missing, like the option to add download links. Everything else works including checkout. I don't recommend just updating the WooCommerce, because it will break a lot more things... y workaround was to clone one of the existing ebooks and just change whole content including a download link. But when I create a new product I can't add a download link, and that is a problem moving forward." Many thanks, as always.
