It is my understanding that the only option for analog (*copper*) landlines are "clever" answering machines that perform some sort of "Are you a robot" type of hackery or just not answering the phone. VOIP phones have more options. > I know steps are being taken to lessen the number of calls we consumers > receive, but it's just taking a very long time. And for every "stop," > these folks find a new way to bug the heck out of us. Most of it is technology: the analog (*copper*) landline tech has basically no options at the receiving end. The source end has a different set of issues, mostly because of the technology involved and due to international borders (many robo calls are from overseas sources, which imposes jusistional limits. > > > > Any ideas? In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <1ae3b375-a592-bb9e-9aad-eaebc2ce3509@itabix.com> It's possible that moving the domain to another account has triggered the "no transfer for 60 days" ICANN rule, so between that and not having access to the contact email means you probably can't transfer it for a while. I would pursue continued conversations with namecheap (maybe you can escalate to someone who is more reasonable), as well as Rich's recommendation of the About Lost Domain Names processes he linked to here https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/lost-domain-names > If you can unlock the domain transfer it to another registar that you > can work with, such as register.com. I have to say, in my experience register.com is the most expensive of the large registrars and they do every nasty thing they can to prevent domains from transferring out, I'd strongly suggest avoiding them. Typically, domain.com comes out on top of best registrars, their domains are $10 compared to register.com's price was $35 back when they posted it, and they've now made it much harder to find out how much renewals are (they offer a cheap first year to suck you in) but you can be sure it's $35 or more. Other add-ons like domain protection are similarly super expensive. Network Solutions is almost as bad, although my experience is that they've stopped trying so hard to prevent transfer outs in the past few years. I have created a series of Google Sheets spreadsheets for a client. Her employees each fill out a timesheet, all of which are linked to a roll-up document that summarizes each week's payroll, etc. Each employee is linked to a separate sheet in the rollup sheet, which then uses some other sheets to summarize the payroll info. In my testing, these all work as designed all of the time. Over the past 3 months, I have had a number of issues where the formulas in the roll up sheets become disorganized. A link to F4 will turn into F187. I solved those problems by using Absolute values (e.g. $F$4) and they do not seem to have reoccured. i have protected some ranges, but since she is the owner, she can override the protection. This past week, two cells were overwritten by what looks like text from another part of the sheet (i.e., F4 and F15 were overwritten by text in F3 and F4). I do have a couple of scripts, but they simply copy the same named range each week and paste it as values on another sheet. My client si not very computer literate and is very awkward in using computers. I am attributing her problems to her inadvertent copy and pasting or moving cells since I cannot find any code or other way of making these changes except by a copy or move and paste or something similar. Does anyone else have these problems or any suggestions? I could do this in Excel with complete confidence that I can protect against any inadvertent changes, but Google Sheets is another beast entirely. We need to use Sheets because her office is distributed and everyone is on-line and not on a LAN. Any suggestions would be appreciated. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Excel On-Line doesn't allow macros and has some other limits to functionality that might preclude its use. I will look into forms, though I will need to be able to load previous data as well as look at and enter this week's. Still looking to see whether anyone has run into Google Sheets quirks that can cause this behavior. I don't like to be blaming my clients unless I am clear that they are causing the problem. Usually, I can educate them, but this particular one is hard--if they are causing the problem, they are not aware of it and so it is hard to suggest modifications to their behavior. I've heard that Google, the New York Times and the Washington Post are all blocked in China now. I'm going in the fall, and I really don't want to miss three whole weeks of our national drama and be bewildered when I come home. Even if you don't know much about the Chinese firewall, can anyone think of a reliable website for US news that is unlikely to be banned by the Chinese Government? Maybe because it's small and obscure? I know there's something called a VPN that can sometimes get around the restrictions, but I fear I'm not techie enough to install that on my phone or laptop and troubleshoot it if it messes me up. Thanks for any tips. The version history showed when the changes happened and who made them. (Inadvertent dragging was the culprit, which I suspected but couldn?t document.) Hopefully, some education will solve the issue. Can?t thank you enough. And thanks to everyone who replied. Once again, the Hidden-Tech community rallied to help.
