         This is a great discussion for me 
because I'm also just starting to offer a 
retainer program. My situation is a bit different 
so I'm structuring it differently. Would 
appreciate comments / suggestions and hope this is helpful to David.

         My work is a service but for most 
situations is quoted by the 'project.' However 
clients often want me available to intervene in 
smaller situations on an as-needed basis.

         I normally do an 'intake interview' 
about the situation that takes about .5 to .75 
hours and I figure that as the first $50 of 
whatever fee I quote. I also provide a long 
report that is partly report and partly an 
educational piece about how I work, the jargon, 
etc. That takes 15 minutes or more.

         For clients who already know my work and 
want an intervention without all the phone calls 
and reports I'm making the following offer:
For $600 they purchase up to 7 interventions per 
12 month period. This does not include a full 
clearing of a person or building, but smaller issues that crop up.
This is less per intervention than i have charged 
corporate clients who asked for this kind of 
scheme on a onesy / twosey payment plan. <technical terms>
I'll set up a VIP Toll Free voice mail for 
retainer clients and a VIP email box so they feel 
special and I commit to handling the issue within 
3 days after their contact and provide a two paragraph emailed report.
I get cash up front. My total time to do the work 
is minimized and I have an ongoing relationship 
with happy clients. I am also including a 
discount on full clearings as an incentive in the package.
         A different approach because I work by 
the job / project not by the consulting hour. Any 
suggestions for making this better or other 
perspective would be appreciated and I hope it 
give David, who started this thread, some ideas.
