[Hidden-tech] Best Wordpress theme suppliers

Hi Hidden-Tech,

I don’t chime in much in these discussions much, but I’ve been following this thread and wanted to add my 2 cents.

I’ve been a WordPress developer for a while and I’ve used a lot of themes, as well as developing my own.

My favorite theme is Genesis, coupled with the sample child theme (or just a barebones child theme), Beaver Builder and UABB. Genesis is more of a framework than a theme and has a lot of useful features including built in SEO and schema microdata editing capabilities. Unlike Divi and VC, Beaver Builder does not use inline CSS or shortcodes. But it’s completely drag and drop, which is nice for clients who want to edit their own layout. The downside is that BB is expensive and there’s no lifetime option and if you aren’t good at CSS there’s a chance your site could look a bit bland. BB also has it’s own theme, but it lacks some of the bells and whistles of Genesis.

Divi is a framework and theme rolled into one. Divi is a beast and it keeps getting bigger. I use it a lot, but I’m starting to move away from it. If you aren’t running PHP7 and don’t have at least 512M of server memory, forget using Divi. Like VC, Divi creates shortcodes, so if you ever want to use a different theme, you’ll have a mess on your hands. But from a an editing perspective Divi is a snap to use. It’s fairly easy for clients to learn. But the front end editor sucks. And you have to do a lot of optimizing to make your site fast, especially if you’re running Woocommerce with it (Divi is highly compatible with WC but together they can be a major drain on resources). What I like about Divi is there’s a huge support community, it’s very hackable (creating new modules is easy), and it has a lifetime subscription for unlimited sites.

Any theme that uses Visual Composer should be avoided. VC is a bloated, buggy mess. I’ve seen it drag sites into the dirt. Load times of 3-5 seconds!

Although I haven’t worked with it, I’ve heard good things about Elementor. X is also a very nice theme.

Just my thoughts.

-Erik
