What seems to be a simple issue can actually be quite complex. You need to "isolate the variables" to see what is causing the problem. 1. Connect with WIRE from device to Comcast modem if possible. Check connectivity (run speedtest speedtest.net or speakeasy.com or Comcast's own) 2. If THAT is no good, then your problem is either : comcast on premise wiring, comcast modem, ethernet cable, or ethernet card in device used. Don't go any further before you fix what ails when connected with WIRE ... 3. Once you test good for WIRED connectivity, then move on to step 4. 4. Connect a wireless device to your wireless access point. It could be Comcast's modem's wireless or your own access point/router connected to Comcast's modem. 5. If it tests good, great. If not, then remove your own router/access point from the network and connect wirelessly to Comcast's. If that is no good (and its WIRED connectivity is), then the issue is either the Comcast wireless side of the modem or your own wireless device. 6. If 5 above tests fine, then add your own access point back and test. If that is no good, then you may have a faulty ethernet cable between the Comcast modem and your router/access point. If your access point has ethernet ports, test WIRED connection from your device to the access point. If that is no good, then replace the cable between Comcast modem and router/access point and test. Lastly, replace the router/access point or reconfigure it. Or determine if your wireless device is functioning properly. Whew! That was a lot and I haven't had my coffee yet, so I hope not too rambling. But I hope it helps people! -Roy On 05/19/2017 07:10 AM, Rob Laporte wrote: > No sure how accurate this performance map not supplied by Comcast is, > but I have found it useful: > http://downdetector.com/status/comcast-xfinity/map/ . > > I’ve also learned that increasingly wireless devices at nearby > neighbors, and perhaps other wireless devices in a the same building, > obfuscate the signal.
