Marlboro College's grad school has successfully completed it's move to the
main campus in Marlboro VT!

It's Last call for summer courses which soft start May 12th, but can be

Courses are eligible for the VT EdTech Specialist endorsement (#42)and most
for the technology requirement for the VT Online Teaching Endorsement.

*Games and Simulations in Education.* 3cr. All online.

   - Taught by Vermont K12 teachers Sally Bisaccio, Michael Beardsley.
   - Description: This fully online course
   ​teaches
    how to
   ​ ​
   effectively use online games and simulations for teaching. No gaming
   experience or game hardware
   other than a computer is needed​.
   ​Course content will have students use the educational tools available
   in leading
    3D worlds and
   ​computer ​
   games
   ​.​
    Participants will create avatars, connect with online educational
   communities, and develop strategies for using
   ​the right tools in their
   teaching.
   ​Specifically, ​w
   e'll dive into game simulations like MinecraftEdu
   ​, ​
   a problem-solving creative sandbox world
   ​ and begin to use its
    educational tools. We'll learn to use
   ​ ​
   Jokaydia Grid (
   ​a​
   n educationally oriented open source 3D world)
   ​and ​
   Second Life
   ​'s 3D world​
   ​. We'll visit ​
   Second Life's famous Virtual Ability Island (VAI)
   ​  that a
   ssist
   ​s​

   ​those disabilities such as
   autism, cerebral palsy, Down’s Syndrome,
   ​and
   emotional trauma.
   ​We'll c
   onnect with
   ​other ​
   online educational communities, and develop
   ​a way to build a personal learning network in this area
   .

   - Meets: All online.

*Facilitating Online Learning*. 3cr. Blended. Three meetings. z

   - Taught by: Lindsey Rothschild, coordinator of instructional design and
   support for Holyoke Community College.
   - Description: How do we facilitate online learning so that students are
   optimally engaged and learning objectives are being met? Participants will
   integrate their knowledge of learning theory and instructional design to
   explore best practices for providing content to students online, engaging
   them in a vibrant learner-centered community and effectively evaluating
   their learning. Participants will discuss issues specific to courses that
   are online-enhanced, blended and fully online. Accessibility and learner
   support will be emphasized. Participants will utilize Moodle to create a
   learning module that integrates pedagogy with appropriate technologies to
   engage students in meeting learning objectives. Facilitating Online
   Learning (FOL) will itself be facilitated as a workshop where participants
   will take an active role in teaching each other and introducing topics of
   interest to the class.
   - Meets: Saturdays, May 20, June 17, July 15.

*Leading Change, 3cr*

   - Taught by: Robert Crowley, IT director at Hampshire College.
   - Description: This course prepares participants to lead change within
   an organization. The course brings students through a systematic approach
   to enterprise-wide change around technology initiatives. Students create
   strategies for change management within various organizational models as
   they plan, document, and implement a change management strategy for an
   organization of their choice.
   - Meets. Sundays, May 21, June 18, July 16.

*Legal and Ethics. 1cr. *

   - Taught by: Beth Ruane, Director of Marlboro College's Library.
   - Description: In this age of open access and unprecedented levels of
   connectivity, copyright, fair use, and intellectual property are still
   major issues and even hurdles we face, particularly in an educational
   setting. What do we as educators need to know as we go about pulling
   together course material? What do our students need to know as they
   complete research assignments? Topics will include legislation, guidelines,
   and best practices, and a variety of open access resources will be explored
   and evaluated.
   - Meets: All online.
