I use Firefox with Ghostery. The latter claims to stop and displays blocked
sites the plant stuff that one might not want on the machine. Often as many
as 17 sites are shown.

Of course I have no way of knowing if it is actually working, but I do
notice that web pages load a lot faster and Google news has many blank
spots where advertising usually is.

The other part I got several years ago came from Newsweek (when it was in
print). A legal notice had Adobe in court for Flash Cookies, .sol files.
After I discovered over 250 of them, I axed Flash.
