[Hidden-tech] projecting texts onto a wall

For events, we do something similar through a paid program called Social Wall through CVENT, that collects social posts with a particular hashtag. I'm sure there are other meeting engagement software, but that might send you in the right direction. We've also used fundraising software that allowed names to be projected, that might have some flexibility. For an upcoming conference, we are trying out an audience response system and chose iclicker, we went with a basic option, but there may be options for actually capturing text.

We also have used a text service for meetings through Message Media, but have never projected them, though I am sure there may be mechanisms to do so (even manually capturing them in Powerpoint with basic projection).

There are so many options to project from a computer to the wall or large screen tv, and you can get incoming texts if you have a google voice account.

Beyond that, putting those pieces together is pretty easy.

Only one warning, the same that applies to any computer driven presentation,
Make sure you test with the EXACT equipment you are using for the event,
can't say how many times I've see people scurrying around with nothing on the screen
looking for cables or trying to get computer output to the screen.

I once participated in a project like this where people texted messages to a number, and then the person receiving the messages was able to read them before projecting them up onto the side of a building, so there was some regulation. Has anyone done this successfully? Is this done with a certain type of software? I’m just starting to explore how this might work— all input and advice is welcome.
