It behaves like a typical WiFi Access Point -- if your machine speaks 802.11
b/g/n, it will work. It will work with *any* laptop or iP* or Android device 
that can do standard WiFi.  It works with my Linux laptop just fine.

No, it is its own thing.

I don't really know.

Note this is a credit-card sized wireless version.  They also have a USB 
device, but I opted for the more costly wireless thing, since the USB thing 
would probably be problematical WRT device driver fun, that I just don't want 
to deal with, given that I use a somewhat less than bleeding edge Linux distro 
(and thus with an older base kernel).
