Stacy — the history automation function in photoshop is really easy. Don't think of it as coding, just find the menu and test a few of the parameters on a few selected test photo files (i.e., not on your originals). 
	You can look for a tutorial video on the Adobe website. Or, no doubt, something on YouTube. It really sounds like the easiest solution to your query and, if you have a mac and have photoshop installed, it's a tool right there in front of you.
