I think that issue is pretty much going to be inherent in whatever system is used. Each new drawing will be a single, unique "product," which will need to have some sort of name or ID so when an order comes in she knows which drawing has been ordered. And it sounded like there might be some variation in price too from one drawing to the next, again requiring that each drawing be uniquely identified in the system. Yes, this will mean that when each new drawing is uploaded the associated data will have to be entered (drawing name, price, ...). But, I don't see this as a huge deal. Yes, it means lots of entries in some database but that's not a big deal. And it doesn't take that long to fill in a few text fields. It does mean that systems where you pay per "product" will likely not make sense. As an artist I can quite understand not wanting to get into printing multiples. It's far from easy or cheap to accurately reproduce a work of art, especially at larger than letter size. It takes quite a bit of work to keep the color right through the steps of scanning/photographing the work to printing it. Yes, it can be done but it takes time, money and experience to do well. And in the end it's still a reproduction. Yes, she is already doing half of this process to get the images online but its a lot less demanding to get an image that looks good online that it is to produce a printed reproduction that looks good, at least if you are an artist who wants the colors in the reproduction to accurately match the colors in the original, which most artists do. The problem is in selling originals. I am not sure how you set it up so that no product can be ordered more than once, without a lot of work manually entering the name of the piece or the date it was published, and then setting the quantity available to just one would mean a lot of dead space on the cart as things are purchased and removed from availability. Have never used Etsy or Shopify, but from what I know, the same problem would apply. Is there a reason she wouldn't want to be able to print more copies? BTW, I am a fan of Kate's art and keep her Facebook page up on my desktop computer. I usually visit at least 2-3x/week, though these days, I'm using my laptop more, and the laptop doesn't do as well with a bazillion browser tabs open. _________________________________________________ Watch (and please share) my TEDx Talk, "Impossible is a Dare: Business for a Better World" http://www.business-for-a-better-world.com/tedtalks/ Shel Horowitz - Green Business Profitability Expert Helping you find the value in your values since 1981 - because Green isn't just good for the planet--it's *great* for your bottom line Contact me to reach Green, socially conscious consumers with marketing that has THEM calling YOU" Twitter: @shelhorowitz * First business ever to be Green America Gold Certified * Inducted into the National Environmental Hall of Fame http://business-for-a-better-world.com * http://greenandprofitable.com/ mailto:shel at greenandprofitable.com * 413-586-2388 Latest award-winning, best-selling (8th) book: Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green (co-authored with Jay Conrad Levinson) Blog: http://greenandprofitable.com/shels-blog _________________________________________________ On Mon, Jan 5, 2015 at 12:43 PM, Dan Richardson (t) <tech at nottooloud.com> wrote: My wife is an artist. She's not interested in doing prints, and wants to make the originals cheap, $20 and up. She's looking for the easiest system, both for her and her viewers. Doesn't have to be on Wordpress, but she's happy enough there otherwise. Click a button by a picture, takes you to an address form and maybe a PayPal link, and also marks that picture as sold. Something like that.
