[Hidden-tech] Spam source?

There are so many sources of spam....
But I have had this problem with my WP site as well, after upgrading to 4.0.
Not sure why that made a difference.
I ended up setting my domain hosting to "private", so that my business email
is not out there on the Who Is list to be harvested.  This seems to have cut
down the spam significantly.

Hello HT,

All of a sudden - like last 4 days I'm getting an enormous amount of spam on
one of my email accounts. I basically use this account for two
things: Contact from my WP site http://www.sharinghousing.com  and Facebook.
I do have a test site up with the contact form, but that's supposed to be
hidden using a plug in "Hide My Site" I have just upgraded the test site to
4.0.

I suspect the source of the spam is the WP site?  Could it be Facebook? 
Any insights or knowledge and actions to take from this community would be
welcome.
