Hi Marcia, I have verizon DSL. Almost as soon as I got the verizon modem I tossed it into the trash and bought a LInksys X2000 wireless/router/dsl modem all in one. I literally had a modem + router + wireless AP and then consolidated to this one unit. The linksys has very easy port forwarding options, and best of all, its only 50 bucks. I've been using it for at least 4 to 5 years now and its been relatively stable. I use port forwarding for my home security cameras (before cloud cameras came out) and it works fine. I'd recommend this solution over Verizon's.
