[Hidden-tech] Easy way to clone a WordPress website?

Hi Shel,

You probably (read, REALLY) don't want to duplicate the site on two domains. Instead, you'll want to set up a 301 redirect for the old domain to the new one. But first, WP needs to be ready for the new URL.

In your hosting control panel, you need to set the destination for the new domain name to the same folder as your old domain.

Next, see this article about changing WP's URL. (Because you're setting up a 301 for the old domain, changing the WordPress URL and Site URL should be sufficient, but ideally you would replace all occurrences of the old domain name with the new one. I use this script for that.)

Then, set up the 301 redirect.

I do this exact process all the time for sites I build, and it's pretty quick once you get used to it, so let me know if you'd like help.
