If I create a link with syntax like

business-for-a-better-world.com/telesummit?Shel or 
business-for-a-better-world.com/telesummit?referrer=Shel, will it 
create a trackable link that would bring people to 
business-for-a-better-world.com/telesummit and track it to a referrer 
named Shel?

If not, is there a different syntax that would do this, without 
formal affiliate software?
