I am a big fan of volusion for a lot of reasons, have done over 30 sites with it. But big commerce is a pretty close second. I always recommend using a hosted platform unless you are only taking paypal, the woo commerce works well in wordpress. The issue is pci commpliance, you don't want that responsibility. And the server and software maintenence. May seem like some store software is free, but better to pay the $15 or $30 a month and know all the tech stuff is just taken care of. Plus 24/7 support for free. None of that comes with free e commerce software.
