Hi Glenn,
Here's a tip: You might want to compress the directory contents into a tar.gz file first.

You didn't mention whether this is on a server you have access to, but if so, you could probably do it from the hosting control panel. For instance, on a WHM/cPanel Linux box, you could use the File Manager in cPanel to compress the directories contents and download it.
