Hey All, An update..... I was able to get Windows 95 running.... (had to limit my RAM to 512, drive to 2GB, add a piece of software I found on the web so that Windows 95 could work with the faster cpu..) here is the link if anyone is interested: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/141402-windows-95-21ghz-cpu-limit-broken/ once windows 95 came up.... through a little trial and error was able to load and use the DrvSpace program (not part of the basic Windows 95 install, but comes on the cd) I could see the whole drive and the compression drive... I have been able to uncompress the drive.... Unfortuneately, now, I am missing files and some folders... i.e. windows? I have a bunch of *.chk files and dir0000??? directories that were created by Scandisk... I am now looking at two things... How to recover files that may have been deleted off a drive... and / or how to restore this *.chk files and dir0000?? directories.... Anyone want to take a guess that this? thank you all, don Don Stevens TFI, Inc. technology Services 159 Patricia Circle Springfield, MA 01119 Office: 413.209.8333 Cell / Text: 860.6214.4153 Email: dstevens at tryandfindit.com --------- Original Message --------- Subject: Re: [Hidden-tech] Windows 95..... really!!! Hey All, Great advice so far... and so Speedy!!!! I forgot to add one minor detail.... The windows 95 is using something called Dblspace / drvspace.... which compresses the drive.... I have now been able to get a second computer running with the newer hardware and Windows 95 I added the Drvspace tool and are attempting to "uncompress" no luck so far.... I think if not for the dblspace / drvspace.... the virtual idea would have worked... so far I have had to lower the compression ratio.... but it wants me to lower it more and there is no option for that. I am running scandisk again, since it keeps telling me the drive is fine, but the files are messed up.. I will keep you all posted. Thank you so much for getting back to me... This hidden-tech thing really works! don Don Stevens TFI, Inc. technology Services 159 Patricia Circle Springfield, MA 01119 Office: 413.209.8333 Cell / Text: 860.6214.4153 Email: dstevens at tryandfindit.com --------- Original Message --------- Subject: Re: [Hidden-tech] Windows 95..... really!!! You might be better off downloading VirtualBox - https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads - and copying the original hard disk to an image there (I can tell you how to do that on Linux, but it does require a bit of expertise). Then you can have a newer computer, and run Win95 in a virtual computer - an emulator (but a very fast one) - which emulates hardware Win95 will recognize. -Tim On Tue, Oct 22, 2013 at 5:00 PM, Robert Heller <heller at deepsoft.com> wrote: ** Be sure to fill out the survey/skills inventory in the member's area. ** If you did, we all thank you. Note: DOS/Windows 95 is unlikly to be happy with a large (modern) disk. And may not gronk SATA disks at all. > when I boot up for the first time I get this error message: > > > While initializing device IOS: > windows protection error. you need to restart your computer > > I have tried just about everything... > has anyone seen ..... or I guess remember seeing... this before? > > I can't even boot in safe mode... just keeps looping around... > > don > Don Stevens > TFI, Inc. > technology Services > 159 Patricia Circle > Springfield, MA 01119 > Office: 413.209.8333 > Cell / Text: 860.6214.4153 > Email: dstevens at tryandfindit.com > MIME-Version: 1.0 > > _______________________________________________ > Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net > Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net > > You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. > If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members > page on the Hidden Tech Web site. > http://www.hidden-tech.net/members > > -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 / heller at deepsoft.com Deepwoods Software -- http://www.deepsoft.com/ () ascii ribbon campaign -- against html e-mail /\ www.asciiribbon.org -- against proprietary attachments _______________________________________________ Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list.
