[Hidden-tech] A request for help finding a good used car for my son

Greetings!

For the bulk of the last few years, I have been a lurker, more than a participant. I currently live in Berlin, Germany and my son is in school at Hampshire College. 

I want to buy him a good, used car and need some help. Buying a car is probably one of my biggest weaknesses. So, any advice you can share and recommendations would be appreciated. We think we are searching for a relatively new model Mini Cooper, a Honda Civic or another reliable, decent gas mileage used car suitable for the area.

I will be in the Amherst area November 6th though the 15th and would appreciate your help.
