Represent.Us is looking for a UI/UX Designer and Front End Developer to create user-centered experiences for our various web properties. The Designer/Developer would be responsible for the information flow, visual design, usability and programming/coding of the Represent.Us campaign’s web-based and mobile applications. The Designer/Developer would evaluate existing and new designs from a human factors, optimization and usability viewpoint to increase conversions and ease of interaction. Candidates must fully implement and code their own work and provide a solid portfolio of prior successes. Represent.Us is a national campaign to end the corrupting influence of money in US politics.

Responsibilities Include:

Collaborate with our design and content teams to build prototypes, respond to feedback, and iterate quickly
Implement user experience best practices on new properties and improve existing online properties
Respond to technical emergencies and site downtime on existing properties
Troubleshoot, test, and analyze web development work and determine appropriate fixes/solutions
Compile documentation to ensure easy maintenance
Understand the necessity of, and contribute to, coding best practices and standards
Ability to develop technical and functional design requirements based on programmatic needs and communicate those requirements to non-technical staff
Keep abreast of, and research new technology and trends. Recommend innovative solutions and suggest opportunities to integrate them into our operations and activities
Work in team approach with Program Director, Web Developer, Graphic Designer, and others (staff, consultants and vendors) to assist in the design, development, and maintenance of our web properties

Requirements:

Two years+ experience building websites, applications and interfaces with a strong focus on usability and user experience
Exceptional body of previous work for demanding clients (Portfolio review is mandatory)
College degree, or additional and equivalent work experience
Experience working on large-scale websites and web apps in a team-based environment
Knowledge of modern website architecture, standards, and practices
Fluent in HTML, CSS and Javascript
Excels at client-side coding and development, with a good understanding of server-side languages and technology
Loves to learn and keep up with new technology, not afraid delve into technical documentation to better understand the tools used — or to choose new ones
Comfort with distributed version control systems, e.g. Git
Ability to stay organized and work with given project structures and file organization structures
A love of clean, elegant, self documenting code

Please send resume, with brief cover letter, to jobs at represent.us as soon as possible. No phone calls please. Salary commensurate with experience. Full benefits with generous vacation.
