SHELBURNE FALLS -- Ever seen an excellent YouTube video online -- maybe
a TED Talk - and wished you could package those ideas into a neat little
lesson plan for students to learn from? Think you or a colleague is
particularly fabulous at explaining a concept or idea?

Anyone can access, customize and use the 3-minute TED-Ed video lesson
plans, complete with online quizzes and student response tracking,
covering topics from Arts and Literature, to Math and Social Studies,
and more, online for free. And, anyone can make their own lesson out of
any YouTube video!

Jordan Reeves from the TED-Ed initiative at TED in NYC will teach
speakers and teachers how to use the free tools offered at
www.ed.ted.com <http://www.ed.ted.com> in a one-hour virtual
show-and-tell workshop offered on two separate Fridays in May. Attendees
may attend the training in-person at GCC's Sloan Theater or login
remotely to the live training from their personal computers. Workshops
are scheduled for Fri. May 17, 11am-12pm and Fri. May 24, 3pm-4pm.
Registration is required to participate in-person or remotely.

Additionally, up to nine area schools are invited to co-host a
concurrent web-livestream of either workshop at their school for the
convenience of their staff's attendance. Contact Stacy at
stacy at TEDxShelburneFalls.com <mailto:stacy at TEDxShelburneFalls.com> for
details.

TED-Ed's commitment to creating lessons worth sharing is an extension of
TED's mission of spreading great ideas. Within the growing TED-Ed video
library, you will find carefully curated educational videos, many of
which represent collaborations between talented educators and animators
nominated through the TED-Ed platform. This platform also allows users
to take any useful educational video, not just TED's, and easily create
a customized lesson around the video. Users can distribute the lessons,
publicly or privately, and track their impact on the world, a class, or
an individual student. Join this interactive web stream (via Google
Hangout) to learn more about TED-Ed and flipping videos.

Buckland-based Stacy Kontrabecki is the Curator and Organizer of
TEDxShelburneFalls; "I wanted to give teachers and past TEDx speakers
the chance to extend the reach of their skill as educators,
exponentially. The ability to reach thousands of students across the
globe with this elegant, free technology -- it's just awe-inspiring. The
caliber of the almost 300 TED-produced lessons and over 24,000
customized or 'flipped' lessons is astounding."

These workshops are being presented in anticipation of the
TEDxShelburneFalls TEDGlobal livestream event taking place on Wednesday
June 12 at GCC, where day two of the four-day TEDGlobal conference being
held in Edinburgh, Scotland is available to watch live.

Leo Hwang, Dean of Humanities at GCC, is excited to participate in this
partnership. "TED Talks are an inspiring resource for educators,
academics, intellectuals, artists, and people curious about their world.
Working with TED-Ed/,/ faculty can further integrate these fantastic
talks bringing contemporary thinkers and producers into the classroom
and onto their students' desktops. In addition, by learning how to
custom design lessons incorporating videos with TED-Ed, faculty have
another tool to reach students and help keep them engaged in learning
about the world around them,/" /notes Hwang.

*/About TEDx, x = independently organized event/*/In the spirit of ideas
worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that
bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event,
TEDTalks, video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and
connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are
branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED
Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but
individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and
regulations.)/

*/About TED /*/TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth
Spreading. Started as a conference in California 26 years ago, TED has
grown to support those world-changing ideas with many initiatives./

/At a TED conference, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked
to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. TED speakers have
included Roger Ebert, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert,
Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Brian Greene,
Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Three major
TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every
spring in Vancouver, Canada, simultaneous with TEDActive, in Whistler,
BC; and the TEDGlobal Conference takes place each summer in Edinburgh,
Scotland./
/On TED.com, talks from TED conferences are shared with the world for
free as TED Talks videos. A new TED Talk is posted every weekday.
Through the Open Translation Project, TED Talks are subtitled by
volunteers worldwide into more than 90 languages. Through our
distribution networks, TED Talks are shared on TV, radio, Netflix and
many websites./

/The TEDx initiative grants free licenses to people around the world to
organize TED-style events in their communities with TED Talks and live
speakers. More than 5,000 TEDx events have been held, and selected talks
from these events are also turned into TED Talks videos./

/The annual TED Prize grants $1 million to an exceptional individual
with a wish to change the world. The TED Fellows program helps
world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the
TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable
projects and activities. TED-Ed creates short video lessons by pairing
master teachers with animators, for use in classroom instruction or
independent learning. For information about TED's upcoming conferences,
