[Hidden-tech] Weird screen display issue with Dell E1505 Inspiron

Hi all,

We see about a dozen machines a year with similar issues. In most cases, it is actually the screen (backlight) itself and not the inverter board. Occasionally it is the inverter board, or sometimes both the board and the screen. There is also the issue of the cable from the inverter to the screen and the video card to the screen. In some cases over a period of years the cables get frayed and can cause intermittent issues with the connections. Moving the screen around may solve the issue temporarily. The problem with this type of issue is that it is not always immediately apparent. The inverter is the easiest thing to replace physically if you can find the correct part online (specific to screen/model type). However, it is rarely the issue by itself. Replacing the screen is a more likely scenario, but the cost of the screen and labor (if you don't do it yourself) is going to be at least $225 or more. Money better spent in the purchase of a new machine.

Probably a failing inverter for the lcd backlight.

It is possible to DIY if you can find a replacement inverter.
Should cost around $20. Otherwise a repair shop should be able to take care of it.
