You need DOCSIS 3 to get full speed from the cable connection. If you can, buy your own modem. I don't know about Comcast, but Time Warner charges $4/month for a second rate cable modem. You can buy a much faster Motorola Surfboard for about $80. Do the math. As for upgrading your router to 802.11n, that will help to the extent that the receiver at the TV end supports it. It will certainly help with most recent vintage mobile devices.
