Hmmm... This is probably why we need WiredWest... Where people *do* have
broadband, there is little or no competition (which allows 'the only
game in town' to pull this sort of game without consequences).  And of
course there is the rest of us without ANY broadband Internet at all,
stuck with dial-up over crappy phone lines.

It might be possible to have Crocker give you a better DSL connection
than Verizon is willing give you, but it depends on the base quality of
*Verizon's* crappy phone lines.
