[Hidden-tech] faxes on Comcast phone lines

Just a note that at least one of the telephones I use on my FOIS Verizon
cable Internet is the same telephone I used back when I had DSL, and even
before that, when I didn't have home Internet at all. I did not have to get
any special phone when I switched to cable Internet/telephone.

>From an end-user perspective, I think there's a difference between a
combined VOIP system provided by one company, and stand-alone VOIP systems
that plug directly into a high-speed Internet connection. This may be
causing some confusion in the discussion.

I've sent many faxes out over my FOIS line over the years, but, as I noted
in a previous email, they were from my computer, not from a physical fax
machine. So, it would appear that either there is something different about
sending a fax from a computer, or there is some difference between Verizon
cable Internet and Comcast cable Internet.

'Normal' (analog) faxes generally don't work over VOIP (digital phones).
There is a fax-over-ip protocol available, but I am not sure how that works
exactly.
Probably nedds a different sort of fax machine (eg like the VOIP phones are
different from analog phones).
