[Hidden-tech] who services keeping landline number, other than phone companies (verizon, etc.)?

My personal experience with magic jack has always been annoyance at the
hardware setup.  While things like Vonage or Voipo were a little pricer
 they also integrated well with existing hardware.       Magic Jack  and
its software interface just didnt seem like a drop in phone replacement.
 But a great secondary or on the road cheap system :)
