Peter,

I highly recommend Batchelder Associates (Edward Batchelder) http://www.batchelderassociates.com/ batchassoc at charter.net 413 527 9168

Ed Batchelder has 30 years of experience in financial and insurance markets. His wealth of knowledge regarding plans and options in the health insurance industry is certainly impressive. He has been able to put together a full suite of insurance and employee benefits packages for me over the years from when I was a single, self-employed DBA and now as an S Corp with multiple employees. He has access to many carriers and puts together a plan based on your particular needs and income. He is also familiar with the MA insurance partnership program and has helped many people I know resolve issues with paperwork and eligibility within an hour or two. He has the connections and the knowledge to take care of issues and paperwork efficiently and effectively.

If you hate reading about insurance plans, filling out forms and just want to get back to doing what you do best... call Ed.

Good luck,

Hey, everyone.

I'm a software developer, and about a year ago I went freelance. Now I'm looking for health insurance. I've been on COBRA, and it runs out soon.

I've looked at mahealthconnector.org, but I wasn't too happy with what I saw: all of the plans offered are HMOs, save one high-deductible PPO. For my situation, I would strongly prefer a PPO, and not a high-deductible plan.

What other options exist? My impression was that Massachusetts was supposed to have a broad single-payer market thanks to Romney, but that's not what I'm seeing. Are the good plans hidden somewhere?

Is there a broker I could work with? Perhaps a way to get a business plan for a small business with two employees?

Thanks,
Peter
