Hello,

We recently changed our cable plan as well to the $8 basic, because it was cheaper with xfinity to have two services instead of just one (Internet).  Hooked up an Apple tv unit and love it, we use both Netflix and Hulu plus.  You can "mirror" an iPad to the tv and watch whatever is on the iPad on the bigger tv screen.  iPhone pics and music can also be shown/played, and you can connect to iTunes on your computer to watch content as well. That has made watching home videos with the kids a lot more enjoyable!  Hope this helps.
