I have a client that wants a tool for creating reports against an SQL Server database. While they do not initially plan on having these reports available through a web site they don't want that option ruled out for the future. Their current reports are very simple static tables and graphs, but I'd love to give them some sizzle with the use of drill downs and other interactive features. The end users of these reports do not want to create their own ad hoc reports, but want to be able to ask their IT staff to generate new reports that can be added to the system in a day or two. If code needs to be written in a language like C#, Python or Java that is not a deal breaker and may actually be a benefit if it's a way to gain more control for higher levels of customization. Lastly, they of course don't want to pay a lot for it. This is not an area that I'm familiar with so feel free to tell me that Microsoft already provides a tool that works for me (along with the product name so I can Google it). (I'll mostly be working on writing code to suck the data from various feeds and keeping the database up to date). I have worked with Oracle's Business Intelligence reporting tool if you want to use that as a reference. So, hidden tech'ers what do you recommend? Thanks in advanced, Andy.
