[Hidden-tech] Apple Glass Breaking

Hi John,

The fact is that the durability of Gorilla Glass, just like any product,
depends on the integrity of the manufacturing process. iPhone, Samsung, et
al utilize different factories all over the world to produce phones fast
enough to meet outrageous demand.

Gorilla Glass is made by soaking "normal" glass in a super-heated potassium
salt solution. Without going into the science of it. the heat causes the
sodium ions to be displaced by larger potassium ions, making the glass
tougher and more scratch-resistant... the longer the soak, the sturdier the
glass. Some factories cut corners... leading to inferior product.

Sorry to say it's just the luck of the draw as to whether or not you get
the better glass, regardless of what brand you favor. It has nothing to do
with whether or not Apple vs. Droid products are "better," because they
employ the exact same labs to make their glass. Quality control eventually
catches up to them all, but generally not before a couple thousand duds are
sold.

Best,
Shannon
