[Hidden-tech] setting up a computer to work off of two sets of monitors

Hi Dan,

I don't know if this makes sense for you, but here is my solution to working in three different locations (my UMass office, my own business office downtown, and home): I no longer have a desktop computer, instead I have a 15 inch Macbook that I "dock" into a large monitor in three different locations. By "docking" I mean I have at each location a powercord and a cable that goes to the monitor, and an ethernet cord if no WiFi is available. In my business office, where I do most of my computer work, I also have a USB cord that leads to a splitter into which I plug an ergonomic keyboard and mouse, speakers, and an external drive. I backup regularly using Timecapsule. But most everything I do is web-based anyway, so backing up at the other locations isn't a huge issue.

Best,
Meg

** Be sure to fill out the survey/skills inventory in the member's area.

Someone in our office has started using a standing desk. While this is working out quite well, this person would like to be able to switch back and forth from a standing to a regular height sitting position, but we would like to avoid the cost of an adjustable desk.

One possible solution is to have two sets of monitors (currently we use two monitor setups), one at a high desk and one at a low desk.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to switch back and forth without redoing the cables or switching computers to work at the other desk? Some kind of reverse KVM switch maybe? A way to set up 4 monitors?

Or for that matter any other way to solve this problem?

Thanks

-Dan
