[Hidden-tech] Seeking opinions: GAW.com highspeed internet

Several of our clients have used GAW with varying results. I think it depends on what your needs are an the area that you are in. I have clients in Goshen that have had success with the service and are using it for strictly internet only. It has been for the most part very reliable when you can get a good signal from their source (currently a cell tower in the center of Goshen). I have clients that are using their service for business in the Easthampton area (signal is on Mt Tom). Immediately after one installation there were issues with the service. Their technicians had difficulty find the issue which we found to be on their end. We have also seen an issue with faxing and their phone system. Those were resolved by turning the connection speed down on the fax machine. Not exactly what my client was hoping for but now the fax machine will work correctly. Other clients have no issues.

Overall I think that the speed and the price very reasonable considering the alternatives (or lack thereof if you live in the hill towns). The technical support has improved in recent years since they started expanding their reach but there is room for improvement. I would recommend GAW internet over dial-up, satellite, or 3/4G for those folks who can't get DSL or Cable. Speeds hover from 3-7MB and is comparable to DSL in most cases. I'm not sure that I would recommend the phone service unless you only using it for basic phone calls and nothing else.

The one thing that I wasn't crazy about was the signup policy. If you live in an area where the service might be available they will not come out and test the signal/service prior to you signing up for a contract. Only after signing up for the contract will they send someone out to your residence/business to install the service. If the service is unavailable then the contract is canceled. Obviously this can be an issue if the connection is time sensitive as it usually takes a few weeks before the installation and you have no idea if the service will work where you are. I would recommend keeping your old connection until you are up, running and have tested the service sufficiently.
