This is you We are looking for a passionate researcher with a strong, proven interest in health communication and public health. As a researcher, you have worked with diverse audiences – particularly people with limited literacy skills. You should be a talented moderator and interviewer that is passionate about the user-centered design process and be able to evaluate a variety of materials – from print brochures to Web sites to mobile apps. In addition you should: • Maintain strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills – and use them regularly when developing protocols and reporting on your findings. • Be eager to collaborate with graphic designers and illustrators. • Have the ability to think both strategically and visually. • Be comfortable giving and receiving honest, constructive feedback. • Have the ability to working on multiple projects with ease. • Efficiently work with technology and be eager to use a variety of programs and applications. Responsibilities • Conduct formative research with consumers and professionals, including in-depth interviews, focus groups, card sorting, prototype testing, usability testing, etc. • Develop research protocols including screeners and moderator’s guides. • Coordinate with content development and graphic design teams for rapid prototyping and iterative testing. • Communicate findings and recommendations to internal team (writers, designers, and developers). • Write clear and concise reports (from top-level summaries to detailed technical reports) for delivery to clients. • Provide high-level guidance in recruitment strategies, particularly for people with limited literacy skills. • Provide high-level guidance in testing logistics, particularly for remote and field testing activities. Qualifications • Talented communication researcher with experience conducting research and communicating findings. • Live in the DC Metro area or in Massachusetts (if not located in the Northampton, MA area, you must be willing to telecommute.) • Hold a Masters degree in communication, public health, information design, humancomputer interaction, or other related social science. Preferred • 3 to 5 years of experience conducting communication research projects. • Conducted research on behalf of the federal government. • Evaluated content and tools in the health care or public health sector. • Familiar with IRB, Office of Management and Budget Paperwork Reduction Act, and all the nuances of research clearance processes.
