I could be mistaken but I don't believe Verizon supports IMAP. Many ISPs opt out of this technology due to space constraints. However, I do agree it is much better. OTOH, I find imap retrieval slow on the iPad, but then my inbox is absolutely huge which probably has something to do with it.
