POSITION:	Computer Information Systems Faculty -  Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA Unit position

RANK AND SALARY:	Rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Anticipated salary range is $41,470 - $55,000, the actual salary will be determined in accordance with the collective bargaining provisions.  

START DATE:	August 29, 2012

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Faculty member teaches a variety of Computer Information Systems (CIS) courses. Specific courses taught will vary based on institutional needs and the candidate's strengths and interests, and may include a variety of courses in programming languages such as Access, Java and C++; network administration and hardware maintenance; and website development.  Candidates should examine the Department website listed above for a complete listing of current course offerings. Faculty takes a leadership role in coordination of curriculum and program development in this area.  Faculty promotes student learning by creating varied and exciting learning environments, advising and mentoring students, developing and revising course curricula, integrating new technologies, and embracing a multicultural environment. Faculty participates in departmental and college service activities, and advises students.  

GREENFIELD COMMUNITY COLLEGE:
Greenfield Community College is a public community college of approximately 2,700 students. The College is located in the northern Connecticut River Valley, near the academically and multi-culturally rich areas of Amherst and Northampton. In addition to a strong Liberal Arts focus, the College offers a wide variety of innovative and successful programs including Gender and Women's Studies, Fine Arts, Nursing, Renewable Energy, and Outdoor Leadership, as well as varied learning environments, from traditional classrooms, to distance learning, peer tutoring, one-on-one faculty-student advising, workforce development, and learning communities that cater to specific needs and interests. Close to fifty percent of Greenfield Community College students transfer to four-year colleges, and it is Smith College's largest source of community college transfer students. Much of the College has just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that sets the stage for future developments in learning. THE BUSINESS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT:
Greenfield Community College's Department of Business and Information Technology offers nine Associate Degrees and Options, and four Certificate Programs.  Disciplines coordinated and taught by the Department include Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Management, Marketing and E-Commerce, Real Estate, and Tourism & Hospitality.   Many classrooms feature instructional technology that may include teaching stations, SmartBoards, and audiovisual equipment. Faculty offices are located in a contemporary, technically-enabled Business Studio designed to accommodate student projects and study space. The Department is involved in promoting student internships, Marketing Consulting for community businesses, a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, Study Abroad opportunities, a regional entrepreneurship competition, annual tours of business firms in New York City, and five Department-awarded Scholarships.  Our Mission Statement identifies four major goals for our students: (1) To graduate and enter the job market; (2) To graduate and transfer to four-year colleges or universities; (3) To create and develop their own business enterprises; and (4) To acquire knowledge for life in our society and economy.  The department insists on an academic approach that emphasizes cutting-edge developments in Business disciplines and a practical, hands-on approach wherever possible. The Department seeks a colleague who shares these passions and who will contribute to the future direction of the Business course and Program offerings at Greenfield Community College.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:.
M.A. or M.S. in Computer Information Systems or related field (B.A. or B.S. in Computer Information Systems or related field may be considered if the candidate can demonstrate equivalent masters level knowledge and experience.)
Successful experience teaching CIS courses 
3 years or more experience in the workforce in a technology-related capacity.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse abilities and academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural composition of community college students, faculty, and staff.  
Familiarity with a wide variety of Computer Programming languages, Networking operations, and computer hardware systems.
Experience using Computer applications to solve actual problems in a business or non-profit organizational environment.
Familiarity with Moodle or similar online learning applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
M.A. or M.S. in Computer Information Systems or a related field
Experience with current innovations in teaching and fluency with the use of internet technologies and multimedia tools as teaching aids
Teaching experience at and/or other close familiarity with a Community College 
Experience with curriculum and program development
Familiarity with video gaming design and languages
