[Hidden-tech] How to protect & pitch a product idea to an ailing company.

Hi Everyone

While soaking in my wonderful bathtub this afternoon, I came up with an
"eureka" moment idea for a product.

After some initial google searches I couldn't find anything similar to my
idea on the web.

There is a well-known but ailing company that might find  my idea
interesting.

I'm writing a pitch now, but I wonder how do I approach this company with my
idea? 

How do I protect myself to insure I get full credit for this idea and fair &
just compensation if it should fly.
