Tom - I'm no expert at home values, but this makes no sense to me at all. When you go to sell your house, you'll probably want to stage it anyway, which would allow you to reconvert the office into a bedroom, or whatever it was prior to making it into your office. If it's a matter of making a three bedroom home into a two bedroom and one office home, it just doesn't necessarily work that way. You may want to talk to a realtor if you know one. In fact, if you're doing any sort of upgrade (like running CAT5 into the new office, for instance) it may actually add value. Just my thoughts. Any realtors out there that want to chime in? Hi fellow work-at-homeers, Is there a down-side to claiming a home office space as a tax deduction? Specifically wondering how it affects the value of our home over time? our accountant has suggested that it's not always a good idea... but we can't figure out her reasoning & she'll charge us more for giving us a clearer answer... any info would be greatly appreciated.
