When I run into similar problems, I just switch over to the Google
public DNS servers. A handy thing to keep around because it can help
you know if the problem is Verizon DNS servers or if something else in
the pipe is not working right:

Google Free DNS servers:
     8.8.8.8
     8.8.4.4

It appears that Verizon is blocking me from accessing certain web sites - including at times my Pair.com mail server, sometimes my own web sites hosted by Pair, and almost all the time my shopping cart site. Everything else appears to be working.

Since one of the sites I can't reach is my shopping cart site, and that is a service I can't afford to open up to hackers, any workaround needs to be secure. I read a little about proxy servers and it looks like I would need some kind of paid service, which I don't mind as long as it's not expensive and is trustworthy. But this is over my head, technically.
