[Hidden-tech] internet service

Hi Hidden Tech,

In my never-ending--sigh!!--struggle to re-establish my studio after
Irene I am now running into a problem re-establishing my internet
service. At darling beloved 2 Conway Street my internet service was
established by a modem attached to the phone service. I plugged in--I
got internet service. Because I had Valinet at home, I could use
Valinet at a very reduced price at the studio.

Now Valinet is not working. First they claimed that my modem was not
working. Now it was on the counter--it floated--along with my credit
card processor--but Valinet claimed that my modem did not work so I
purchased another modem. Cost me $70 approximately.

That did not work either.

Now Valinet is claiming that the building at 6 Bridge Street in
Shelburne Falls is not wired for internet. It is hard to get Valinet
to return my phone calls--and I do admit I do not try every day--there
is so much to deal with.
The new modem does not work at 6 Bridge Street. I never receive 2
green lights. Is this a real concern? What do I do? Any one want a new
modem--I did purchase it following Valinet's advice--GRRR.

Suggestions welcome. Help welcome. I am a quilt maker. There is only
so much I can deal with in any one day--I try for one thing per day.
Today for instance was trying to not pay taxes on a building that has
been demolished--if you know what I mean??? Another grrrr!!!

My step-son--definitely a geek--suggested I just get a little thing
that plugs into my computer from ATT--will access the internet for a
small monthly fee. Is this a good solution?

Money is definitely an issue. I did after all lose the late great pink
building.

Thanks everyone in advance.

Best,
