[Hidden-tech] Verizon vs ATT smart phone coverage in the Valley

As a long-time AT&T customer in Amherst I agree with Baer's
assessment. I went with AT&T years ago because I found the coverage
was better near my house where I used the phone most often, but
lately, the signal has been horrible starting on University Drive and
almost non-existant in any business in Hadley. It's spotty in downtown
Northampton (and doesn't work at all in Thornes Market, for instance).

As much as I hate Verizon (a pox on both their houses, I say), if
you're judging based on coverage, it seems that Verizon is becoming
better in this area and AT&T is actually deteriorating for reasons I
haven't been able to figure out.

For what it's worth, from what I heard after the storm a couple of
weeks ago, Verizon slowed but didn't fail. AT&T was out for the better
part of a day and on Edge service (instead of 3G) for the better part
of a week.
