Indeed.  Silver is now $35+/oz.   Many jewelry stores (I know the 2 in 
Greenfield) hold "scrap" buying days.  Also there is a coin and metals dealer in 
downtown Turners Falls.

If they don't have any luck real soon: most  reputable coin dealers also deal in 
precious metals (at least two in  Pittsfield). Compensation would be on the 
spot. Those sterling silver items  might be re-sold or (as in the case of gold 
coins) melted for the  metal.
