I have purchased a bunch of hard drives in the last year, all either seagate or western digital. I have always purchased seagate drives over all else, but ended up buying a few WD recently to take advantage of great pricing. HOWEVER... I have had a series of Seagate drives fail on me over the last year, to my dismay. I also had the usb jack on my WD 2 TB fall into the drive!!! So frustrating. Finally, however, I seem to have found a sturdy great drive. I go back and forth from the office with my drives fairly often and while I try to package/transport my drives delicately, I believe it has shortened the lifespan of many of my drives. UNTIL RECENTLY! The new 1.5TB Seagate Go Flex drive has been awesome. It is USB 3, though runs USB 2 no probably, and has an upgradable interface so that you can get serial or USB ports if you like. The only thing you might not like is that it is USB powered. I love it because I have a ton of outlet powered drives that stay put in my office and this one comes home/about with me and if I need to I can access files using my laptop and this drive without needing a power outlet. Makes sure you get the go flex one though, because I bought a 2TB portable seagate freeagent drive that died two weeks after i bought it. Oh, and one thing to consider is that Seagate has a 5 year warranty on their drives, which is significantly longer than most, I believe. I think WD is three years. Here are the product details for New Egg deal. Hope this helps!
