Hi Will,

I agree with those comments and observations. Indeed, stick with the same brand. If you shoot on a Sony camera, use Sony tapes; if a Panasonic, use Panasonic tapes. Since footage is generally irreplaceable, investing a few extra dollars for top-of-the-line tapes is worth the investment. 

When I shoot on my own Panasonic gear, I always go with their master quality tapes. This one has never failed me: Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ. They sell for about $6 each.
