[Hidden-tech] Fwd: mozy no longer unlimited, guess it had to happen...

James -

Thanks for the heads-up. I've been a Carbonite customer for a long time
now, and the reason I went with Carbonite originally is that they offered
unlimited backups from a single machine. At the time that I signed up with
Carbonite, Mozy had a per GB fee structure which made it particularly
unappealing, as it could be more expensive and - given the increasingly
large hard drive capacities - become more expensive still. Carbonite
offered a stable plan. Once Mozy realized that Carbonite was eating their
lunch, they relented and moved to a single yearly subscription price.
Recently, Mozy offered a very enticing feature: simultaneous local backup.
This is appealing because the restore process is far less tortuous locally
than it is from the cloud, and if your machine died, you could get it back
much faster. Because of this, I've been recommending Mozy to my clients.
Now it is decidedly a second choice, given the potential costs involved. Oh
well.

Frank
