I agree with Robert on cell tethering. It's good in a pinch, but... The other major issue with satellite is the expense vs. performance. It's got all the speed of the last line of a DSL leg with the expense of high-end broadband. In short, it stinks. There was a thread on a service that is starting to build out called GAW (an truly awful name, which I understand stands for Great Auk Wireless. I'm not so sure that's any better), which is a *wireless* broadband technology that uses bandwidth in the UHF frequency as I understand. There was a long thread about this recently which you may want to look up. You may not be in there service area yet, but it might not be a bad idea to contact them to see if they have plans for a build-out in your area. You can fill out their Community Interest Form <http://gaw.com/community_form.php> online to express an interest in their service or call them at or call them at (855) 429-7733 ((855) GAWSPEED). If they get enough noise, they may be willing to take the plunge. As I understand with their service, "results may vary," but it may be the least expensive option with the highest probability of a roll-out to the unserved towns out here. As a disclaimer, I have no connection with them whatsoever. However, if they offer an alternative and if the Big Boys see that there is a service moving in, they *might* decide it's worth taking action. Stranger things have happened.
