Good question. Apparently the answer is that Gmail doesn't have a good way to do this. Common sense says, delete as many messages with large attachments as you can. So, open the 'All Mail' and search for example on has:attachment wmv Select all and delete and repeat for other well known potentially large file extensions. Alternatively, you can connect to Gmail via an IMAP client like Outlook or Thunderbird and deal with files from there.
