512--> 1gb will make a pretty big difference in performance. 1gb is definitely supported by leopard. Would you be happier with a new machine? yes. Is it a lot cheaper to snag 1gb stick of ram and throw it in there? Definitely. Ram prices are cheap. PS. I may have some used (tested good) 1gb sticks around the office you can snag from me for cheap if you want to save some money.
