[Hidden-tech] Flyout Menus for Web Navigation

Anybody have an opinion on whether flyout menus or old-fashioned left- 
column in-line menu links are better from a usability and  
accessibility perspective?

Flyouts look cool, but they can be difficult to navigate, and I get  
concerned about cross-browser and mobile device support, unless you're  
building a whole lotta separate stylesheets...
