[Hidden-tech] Looking for internet alternatives

We use Comcast at the office and I have to be honest it is really good. 20mb
service. Crocker would be an alternative but technically they are still on
the verizon backbone, I think if you are having problems with your DSL other
than cost.

Satellite (HughesNet, Wildblue, etc.) is going to slower than Comcast
(and more costly). How it compares with Verizon DSL would depend.
Satellite tops out at about 1mbit or so. 'Bad' DSL is like 768Kbits
(or less) -- that would be in one of the hilltowns with poor copper. In
Northampton, I would expect you are getting at least 3Mbits -- 2-3
times *faster* then HughesNet or Wildblue. Oh with Satellite you have
high latency (ouch) and FAP (double ouch).

HughesNet (Direct T.V.) and Wildblue are the Satellite providers.
Avoid HughesNet like the plague. Wildblue is apperantly tolerable, if
nothing better is available.
