Excellent advice.

I believe that there is no one solution that is best, and I think you can't
even discuss pros and cons without a good understanding of what you want to
accomplish.

I worked for a while as an independent web developer, and I used a lot of
different solutions (people didn't come to us for plain html, we would
generally be hired separately from the designers when extra work was
needed).

ECommerce was usually an out-of-the-box solution, which we would sometimes
customize.

A client with a need for a lot of flexibility in a large organization with
an IT director who had veto power over web apps got a Joomla-based solution.

A client who needed a website that integrated their system of DRM encrypted
data got a from-scratch custom solution.

My current company (I'm creating a product now instead of contracting to
others) has a website that will only be occasionally visited by a potential
customer that wants to see that we're legitimate, we get won't be getting
any clients from web searches or web-based referrals, so we don't need to
change content on a regular basis (trust me, it's the industry we're in...
please HT'ers, don't send me messages about how we're missing
opportunities). We paid for a nice professional design and put up a plain
HTML site.

There are even people for whom Market America might be the right choice, I
don't know anything about them.

If you can provide some more information about circumstances, I'm sure you
can get a lot of feedback here.
